Dues Information

In order to pay for the chickens' food and other supplies, we have to collect dues from our members.

How much are the dues?

Based on our shared decision-making a few meetings ago, we’re moving to a sliding scale for dues. Our first year (2024-2025), dues were $50; this year (June 2025-May 2026), they’ll be $25-$125, depending on where you land. The first year was a guess on costs, and they were a little higher than we expected, hence the increase. With the sliding scale, you are the person that determines what you pay.

We're using the "Green Bottle Method" for our sliding scale, from Alexis J. Cunningfolk at Worts & Cunning Apothecary. Please read their blog post here for a detailed theoretical and practical guide to this method. From their blog post, here is a description of a sliding scale: “The sliding scale is a tool that allows for a product or service to be obtained at multiple price points based on the circumstances of the purchaser….The sliding scale represents the idea that financial resources, including income, are not and should not be the only determining factor in whether or not someone can access services/care/etc.”

If you’re a full green bottle person, that’s $125; half full bottle, $75, and only a little green, $25. This is based on self assessment, and you’re the only person that knows what works for you - so please feel comfortable making that choice and knowing that this community will support each other in participating in the chicken co-op!

If you have more resources to share and want to share more, awesome! If $25 is unattainable for you, let us know and we’ll work it out.
